Office for Grants Enhancements

Our Mission

To strengthen grant proposals and increase external funding success by providing expert guidance, mentorship and strategic review to investigators at Children’s National Hospital and The George Washington University.

Founded in 2010, the Grants Enhancement Program (GEP) supports faculty in developing competitive grant applications and expanding the community of externally funded researchers at Children’s National.

Who Should Participate

GEP review is required for applicable external grant proposals submitted by junior faculty (assistant professor and below).

Faculty at all ranks are welcome to request review.

What GEP Offers

  • Expert Proposal Review
Senior investigators provide strategic feedback on proposal concepts, scientific merit, study design, and alignment with funding mechanisms.
  • Mentorship Support
GEP works collaboratively with proposal mentors to strengthen both the application and the mentoring relationship.
  • GEP Library
Access to funded grant examples and grant preparation resources.

Review Process

  1. Submit an intake form with proposal details and a draft of your Specific Aims (or equivalent outline).
  2. Meet with a GEP Reviewer to discuss your proposal.
  3. Engage in iterative review, beginning with Specific Aims and progressing to the full proposal.

Requests should be submitted well in advance of the grant deadline to allow meaningful review. All grant mechanisms are welcome for review.
