About the Institute
Heart disease affects every part of a child’s life, not just the heart. Families face daily hurdles and lifelong uncertainty, but progress in care has not kept pace with their needs. Children with heart conditions require faster progress and new innovations that match the severity, complexity and urgency of the care they depend on.
The Heart Research Institute at Children’s National Hospital brings together leading experts in pediatric cardiology, cardiac surgery, biomedical science and allied health to accelerate discovery and improve care for children and families facing heart disease. By fostering collaboration and advancing innovative research, the Institute aims to bridge critical gaps between science and clinical care.
The institute’s goal is to transform outcomes and improve long-term quality of life for heart patients – from before birth through every stage of life. Our research drives new treatments, technologies and care approaches that enable more effective and accessible care. Discoveries translate directly into cardiac care innovations that help every child with heart disease live a healthier, fuller life.
Based in the nation’s capital and connected to partners across the globe, the Heart Research Institute is reshaping the future of pediatric heart care through pioneering research and innovation.
