Shilpa J. Patel, M.D., M.P.H. is a pediatric emergency medicine physician, researcher, innovator and a public health advocate. Her academic and clinical interests include leveraging data to improve outcomes for at-risk youth in the emergency department (ED). She has focused her work on leading causes of morbidity and mortality among youth - asthma, firearms and suicide. As the medical director of IMPACT DC (Improving Pediatric Asthma Care in The District of Columbia) she collaborates with clinicians, educators, community and local public health leaders on how to reduce disparities and improve pediatric asthma outcomes. She also collaborates with engineers in the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation on novel solutions to improve asthma care.
