Participants were treated to delightful lectures like the one from Lewis R. First, M.D., M.S., who delivered an engaging lecture filled with humor and personal reflections on medical education. They also got a chance to hear from pioneers like Catherine Gordon, M.D., M.S., and Vence L. Bonham, Jr., J.D., on novel therapies and enhancing diversity. As is tradition with REI Week, all lectures incorporated the central theme of the event through different lenses, with recordings available on the REI Week event page.
A first for this year was the celebration of multiple innovation-focused events at the Research & Innovation Campus: the Innovation Day & Showcase, the 34th annual Pediatric Neurology Update focusing on “Innovating for Cures and Care” and the “Pediatric Medical Devices for Optimizing the Heart-Brain Continuum” symposium.
As always, the week also featured workshops and training opportunities from our partners in the Children's Academy of Pediatric Educators, the Clinical and Translational Research Institute, and the Global Health Initiative. Patients and their families were also able to join in the week’s activities, with a special event arranged by the Responsible Conduct in Research team, that brought Genna Beth Davidson with puppets to explain how to participate in research studies.
In recognition of the achievements and incredible research conducted by participants who submitted their abstracts for evaluation, awards were given in the categories of Poster Sessions, Mentorship, the Elda Arce Teaching Scholar Award, the Suzanne Feetham Nursing Research Support Award, the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Awards and the Global Health Initiative Explorations in Global Health Pilot Awards.
These are the winners:
This year’s event was sponsored by esteemed leaders including Catherine Bollard, M.D., M.B.Ch.B., interim chief academic officer and interim director of the Children's National Research Institute, David Wessel, M.D., chief medical officer and executive vice president, Linda Talley, M.S., R.N., N.E.-B.C., F.A.A.N., chief nursing officer and senior vice president and Kerstin Hildebrandt, M.S.H.S., vice president of Research Administration.
The event fostered collaboration and knowledge-sharing while celebrating the remarkable achievements of the institution's faculty, staff, partners and trainees. It will continue next year, with REI Week 2025, to be held from March 31 to April 4, 2025.
