Mickey Emmanuel, MD's, primary objective is to investigate pediatric healthcare disparities and develop data-driven, community-informed interventions to address these inequities, with a particular focus on injury prevention. Her prior research has examined disparities in two common pediatric conditions—asthma and mental/behavioral health—using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Through this work, she has explored differences in healthcare delivery and outcomes, identifying barriers to equitable care through a patient- and family-centered lens. She now aims to apply these rigorous, equity-focused approaches to the field of injury prevention. Her current research interests also include characterizing the geographic distribution of unintentional pediatric injuries occurring in the home and examine how neighborhood-level predictors contribute to injury risk.
